On behalf of the committee at Queens Park Soccer Club I would like to thank all the Vets players and their Coach Richard for joining us at QPSC with such vigour and love for the game. Sunday 25th Sept
2011--------------------Gosnells 1 v Queens Park 6
For the final game of the season we had, amazingly,
a full squad, which meant we had 5 substitutes. With
perfect conditions we soon got into the swing of
things and our first goal was an easy tap in by Paul
C who was back from a long injury lay off. Then
shortly after Art got one of his typical goals with
a good shot from outside the area and then Paul G
made it 3 with a header. We then decided to go to
sleep and started to give away possession needlessly
and they scored with their first shot on goal to
make it 3-1 to us at half time. We started off the
second half how we had finished the first by playing
really scrappy stuff and a better team than Gosnells
would have taken advantage of the opportunities we
gave but eventually we got back into our rhythm and
Tino scored a good goal with a low shot from the
edge of a crowded area that went in past the right
post. Then Scot scored the goal of the match with a
powerful shot from about 25 yards that screamed
into the back of the net , something that he has
been trying all season but without much success and
then Pete Murray made it 6 from a well taken penalty
which to be honest we were very lucky to get. So it
finished 6 - 1 to us and we eventually found out that
we finished 5th , going above Western Knights who
surprisingly lost to lowly Armadale. We had a few
beers after back at Dereck's and were all in
agreement that it has been a very successful,
enjoyable season despite the severe injury problems
of the last 2 months. Our coach Richard has again
been brilliant and training is always interesting
and enjoyable and we are delighted that he will do
it again next year. Luckily we had a big squad this
year and it was great to play along side 3 of our
new players, Dave, Chris and Soogi. Having him up
front has been great I don't think many of us have
played with someone with as much pace as him. Our
midfield has been brilliant and as a full back it
was great for me to have Art, Scott, Dave and Paul G
to pass to. Our defence suffered due to our injuries
and it chopped and changed all season so it was
great to see Pete L play so well as sweeper for most
of the season and Dean had some great games at right
back. He has improved so much this year and
hopefully he will continue to do so next term. Its
been a difficult time in the goalkeeper department
as we lost a very promising looking Tom early on. I
wasn't that hard on him was I? Then Dom did a great
job for a couple of months and then Dereck took over
as he wasn't fit enough to play on the pitch and had
a great game last week in our draw with 2nd place
Port Kennedy. Finally we have to thank everyone at
Queens Park for making us so welcome again this
year. After every match, and also training there is
always food and snacks for us and a lots of the
opposition players have been well impressed and also
jealous! I think we repay the generosity of our club
by drinking as much as we can in the bar. Its
certainly great to be a part of the club and we cant
wait to be back next season .

2011-----------------Queens Park 5 v Port Kennedy 5
The week before our last home game of the
season we had lost a very good, entertaining game
against Canning Buffers 3-2, with Art scoring 2, one
from the penalty spot, and us frustratingly missing
plenty of chances. Skoda, Neil M and Chook all
suffered injuries that would make them unavailable
for the Port Kennedy game but on a more positive
note a certain Simon Cherry returned unexpectantly
from injury and put in a good performance .
We really wanted to put out a good team against
second placed Port Kennedy after the disgraceful way
we were treated by their ref back in July but due to
our continuing injury crisis we only had 12,
including our coach Richie as sub. Fortunately Paul
G was back after his long lay off but we really
expected a hard ,torrid time so it was a surprise to
say the least when we found ourselves 3 nil up after
15 minutes ! Conditions were extremely difficult due
to a strong wind that blew across the pitch but it
seemed to suit us as first Soogi lobbed their
keeper, similar to his goal earlier in the season v
Canning Buffers, then he headed one in from a corner
and then Paul G scored one of his trademark goals by
getting into the area on the right after losing his
marker and beating the keeper across the goal. We
couldn't believe it ! They pulled a goal back with a
good shot from the edge of our area but within
another 10 minutes Art scored to make it 4-1 .They
pulled another one back to make it 4-2 but then
Soogi scored our fifth goal to seal his hat-trick.
Every thing we tried to do ended up in the net, not
a common occurrence at times this season! It couldn't
last though and gradually they started to show why
they are second in the league and scored 2 quick
goals to make it 5-4 to us at half time. We were
under no illusions as to how hard the second half
would be and certainly we were expecting a lot more
goals. Also a couple of our players were starting to
struggle with injuries and for long periods we were
under constant pressure but we seemed to be holding
on, especially with the help of 2 superb saves from
our keeper Dereck. We had the occasional counter
attack but with Paul G in particular suffering from
cramp we couldn't take advantage or create too many
chances. With about 5 minutes to go they finally got
the equaliser but we managed to hold onto a draw
after some frantic stuff in our penalty box. We were
relieved when Tyrone blew the final whistle and
although we had given away a good lead, to be honest
we could have been absolutely hammered in the second
half by a very good team and a draw was certainly a
good result for us in the end. Our best players were
hat trick Soogi, unsung hero Dereck, Ches and of
course the one and only Art !

----------------- Queens park 3 v Canning City 0
After winning 2 in a row we were feeling
very confident and we started well putting the
opposition under constant pressure playing good
passing football and the first goal after 15 minutes
was a result of this with a move started by Dereck
giving the ball to Skoda and after a few slick
passes the ball came across the area and Tino put it
in the net from about 6 yards. We were put under
pressure from Canning but continued to start good
moves from our defence , out to the midfield who
constantly worked their way into the area and we
were feeling really good about our game. The second
goal, scored by Andre was a case of a bit of a mix
up in their defence which he took advantage of. So 2
nil to Queens Park at half time, and expecting more
of the same in the second 45 minutes. It wasn't to
be as easy as that however as Canning City, to their
credit came at us at full pelt. They put us under
constant pressure which didn't help by us losing
possession time after time, but our defence were up
to the task and despite creating plenty of chances
they were frustrated by good interception or poor
final passes and finishing . We kept counter
attacking and Dom and Art in particular blasted 2
good chances over the bar. Eventually Tino put the
ball in from close range from an excellent corner
from Scott to make it 3 nil, much to our relief as
some of us were finding it hard work keeping out
Canning's constant attacks and I have to say on a
personal note I don't think I have had a harder 45
minutes this season, even when we have got beaten.
So a great result played in the right spirit,
another game that was a credit to both teams. With 3
games left now we have to hope we have no more
injuries and get some of our absent players back
because , in the words of that twitching English
manager Harry Redknapp, we are down to the bare
bones!
Our 3 best players were Tino, Andre and Neil M but
again there were good performances from some of the
other lads.

------- Armadale 3 vs Queens Park 5
After 15 minutes we were 3 nil down and
playing awful, rubbish football against a team who
have not had a great season . We thought it was
going to be easy and really didn't give them the
respect they deserved and we paid the price but
slowly we stopped giving the ball away, got our
marking in order and began to play the sort of
passing game that we are good at. We slowly realised
that when we got possession we had plenty of space
and loads of time on the ball and were soon making
chances and by half time had pulled 2 goals back
with firstly a typical Art goal with a great shot
from the edge of the area after beating his
customary 2 or 3 players and then a simple tap in
from Chook after the ball came in from the left. From the moment Chook scored their heads dropped
and we started the second half with constant forays
into their area, often with moves starting from
defence , giving the ball to our midfield and then
carrying on from there but with no goals but plenty
of shots and missed chances. It was all Queens Park
with only the occasional counter attack from
Armadale but our defence of Chris, Skoda and in
particular Dom and Dean were on the ball and Dereck
in goal didn't have a lot to do. Then finally Art
got a similar goal to his first and then not long
after got his hat trick, his third one of the
season. Where would we be without him? We were
playing lovely , passing football and our midfield
were having a field day, especially Tino who had
some great runs on the right and Dave who kept
winning possession in central midfield and then
started countless attacks with his good passing.
Another Art run into their area saw him brought down
and the excellent ref, Jason, awarded us a penalty,
with no dispute from the opposition. Up stepped
Chris. He is not renowned for his shooting ability
to put it mildly but as it was his last game of the
season due to his trip to Europe Richie gave him the
chance to go out in style which he gratefully
accepted and scored the perfect penalty. Lucky for
him that he didn't miss, it would have ruined his
holiday! Armadale were totally demoralised by now
and were happy to hear the final whistle. So a 5 - 3
win but we had to do it the hard way. Our 3 best
players were obviously Art with his hatrick,
followed by Dom and Dean. As I mentioned, it was the
last game of the season for Chris and he will be
missed as he has become an important member of the
team, but we look forward to seeing him next
season.

Thanks to Virgil for another great match report, and please accept my apologies for the delay in posting last weeks report online.... AB.

--------- Queens Park 1 vs Kelmscott Roo's 3
After getting back to the habit of winning with our
7 - 2 victory last week we were feeling a lot more
positive. It had been a difficult time due to our
extended injury list but with a couple of players
back and also Tino and Neil M helping us out we knew
we could give 4th in the table Kelmscott a good
game. It was a lively, entertaining match played in a
good spirit with no whinging or complaining from
anyone and although we lost 3-1 we were very happy
with our performance and certainly had lots of
possession, playing some great passing football and
some of the Kelmscott lads told me after the game
that they couldn't believe they had beat us and
certainly 3-1 made it seem easier for them than it
actually was, but they took their chances where we
didn't. For all our hard work we couldn't put the ball
in the net enough, in fact our goal was a very
dubious penalty which Art put away with his usual
confident attitude . So a defeat, but the game was a
credit to the league and we wish Kelmscott the best
of luck for the rest of the season. Our 3 top players
were Dom, Chris and Art.
One other thing was that we had plenty of support
from our injured players on Sunday. On the touch
line we had Jason, Ches, Paul C and arm in a sling
Colin who are all out for the rest of the
season, Pete L, who could be out for the duration as
well, Leathal, who though still limping reckons he
will be fit next week which would be great, and
finally Paul G who had to come off after 15 minutes
and looks like he will struggle to get fit again
this year which is a massive blow to us. For all
that such is the strength of our squad this season
that we can still manage to field a full team every
week and even had three subs on Sunday. I don't think we
can ever remember having so many players signed up
since we have been at Queens park or when we were at
South Perth and long may it continue.
Virgil
Sunday 7th August 2011 ------------ Queens Park 0 vs Warnbro Strikers 3
Our 3rd defeat in a row against
the team 3rd in the league was not a surprise
considering our desperate injury problems at the
moment and within 10 minutes it got worse when Skoda
had to come off with hamstring problems and we were
already a goal behind. Our coach Richard had to play
again and found it hard work in midfield as a very
good team put us under constant pressure but we
gradually pulled ourselves together and Scott hit
the bar with a great shot that went over the line
but the ref couldn't see so we played on. In the
second half Paul G, who had been out injured for a
couple of weeks came on for an appearance as short
as Skoda's because within 10 minutes he realised he
wasn't match fit and had to come off and will
probably be out for a few more games now. We had
great performances from Neil who played sweeper, not
his favourite position, Scott, who battled away and
had another chance well saved and Chris, who at
centre half had his best game of the season and if
he thinks he is going to Europe on holiday in
September he better think again; you don't have our
permission mate! Although we lost 3 nil we thought
we did reasonably well considering the circumstances
and I think the opposition were a bit relieved after
the hard game we gave them back in May. So our
injury situation to my knowledge is Skoda,
hamstring, Paul G. calves, Pete L, knees, Pete M,
hamstring, Paul C, everything ! Leathal, broken
bones in foot, allegedly caused by Skoda in training
4 weeks ago and aggravated by Forrestfield Utd, and
3 long term injuries to Ches and Jason, knees and
Robbie Bufton, shoulder reconstruction! I'm not
going to mention our ex keeper Tom! Plus Soogy, AWOL
! Will we ever see him again? Nat, don't know what
to say about him. Derek played with a leg problem
the second half last Sunday and Art has a bad back
for most of the game so don't know if they will be
available this week. If I have forgotten anyone else
I do apologise ! Special thanks to Andre who helped
us out v Warnbro and also must mention that Neil McGovan promised to play for us next week! That
would be a great boost to us poor, struggling bunch
of veterans.

Sunday 31st July 2011 ------------ Forrestfield Utd 6 vs Queens Park 0
I don't know where to start
really! After losing to the top team last week with
a depleted squad we were feeling a bit happier
playing a side below us in the league and with a
better, fitter team, or so we thought. We had a
decent midfield and forwards but our defence was
missing Pete L and Ches and Dean had to play centre
half, his first time ever I think! They put us under
immediate pressure and we struggled to contain their
2 forwards one of who was well over 6 foot and who
controlled the ball really well. It didn't help when
I stupidly lost possession just in their half to the
big striker putting my fellow defenders under
pressure and before we knew it the ball was in the
back of our net. We soaked up a lot of pressure but
then made a few chances ourselves but then from a
corner they scored their second and at half time we
were a frustrating 2 goals down. We started the
second half really well and put them under a lot of
pressure and squandered a few chances but then a
long ball from their half went over our defence and
the big man latched onto it and blasted past Dom.
That was the killer punch as we had really got back
into the game. Paul C had to come off with back
problems and our coach Richard took his place as
sweeper and soon appreciated the problems our short
defence were having with the long ball and a big
striker as they scored 2 more similar goals. We
still had a few chances but could not score. Art,
Scott, Neil, and Chris did their best to get us back
into the game, winning the ball in midfield and
getting it into the area but to no avail. When they
got the 6th goal many of our heads had dropped by
then and we were relieved to hear the final whistle.
We were really disappointed and surprised to lose so
comprehensively to a team well below us in the
league but that's football. With no height in our
defence it was always going to be difficult against
their tall, very skilful striker but he was not the
only one that gave us problems and even if we had
taken some of our missed chances we were still well
beaten. To make things worse I have just found out
that Ches will miss the rest of the season as he has
to have an operation on his knee, our second knee
victim as Jason is also out for the season with a
similar problem. Two weeks ago we were on a real
high , delighted with our winning run but how
quickly things can change.
Virgil
Sunday 24th July 2011 ------------ Queens Park 0 v Kalamunda 5
After our recent run of 5 wins
from 6 games we were hoping to continue our good
form against the top team in our division but with
at least 6 regulars missing for one reason or
another it was always going to be a difficult match.
In fact 2 of our players started with injury
problems and in reality should not have even been on
the pitch but had to help out due to the shortage,
the first time this season we have had to deal with
this. Unfortunately within 15 minutes one of them,
Paul G, had to come off which was a big blow to us
but even though we were under constant pressure we
defended well and Leathal, Scott and Art battled
gamely to try and give us a lead. We were
frustrating Kalamunda, who are easily the best team
we have faced this season and they reacted with
constant whinging and moaning to Tyree , our ref,
who had a real job on his hands to try and calm them
down and keep the game flowing. In particular their
number 17 had to be calmed down several times, even
by his own team, what he was going on about I
haven't a clue. They scored just before half
time and must have been confident after the break
but it certainly didn't make them any happier. On
our part Pete L was really struggling with a knee
injury and Dave had a groin problem but they both
played on but it was difficult for them and us. Even
so with an hour gone and the happy gang from
Kalamunda only one up a ball from our half went over
their defence and Leathal got onto it and wacked a
superb half volley from well outside the area that
hit the post and shot across the goalmouth but not
unfortunately into the net. If that had gone in I
think the opposition would have imploded with
whinging and frustration but shortly after their
pressure led to the second goal and then with only 9
fit players we really struggled and they scored 3
more and deserved more to be honest and we were
grateful for the full time whistle. We gave
them a good enough game for an hour and we felt if
we had only had 2 or 3 of our other players
available or even if Paul G had stayed on the pitch
we could really have given them something to moan
about! I feel sorry for whoever is the ref when they
play Canning Buffers, the other team in this
division renowned for their whinging! Our man of the
match was Dom who made some great saves and also Art
did his best but was always fighting a losing
battle.
Virgil
Sunday 17th July 2011 ------------ Chandlers Macleod 1 v Queens Park 4
The second half of the season
started with an away game against the team we drew
2-2 with in April. On a lovely sunny day we started
off very positively and very soon we were one up
after Art worked his way into the box after a great
pass from Leathal and blasted the ball past the
keeper. Very soon it was 2 after Arts' shot went
through the keepers legs and then for much of the
half we had almost constant pressure on the
opposition with great work and movement from all our
midfield and strikers but poor finishing meant we
could not increase our lead. For their part
Chandlers occasional forays into our half were
easily dealt with by our defence apart from one
scare late in the half when one of their forwards
received a good pass and forced his way into the
area but his shot was well saved by Dom who came out
and closed him down. So at half time we were 2 nil up
and confident we could increase our lead. The second
half started with some open, good football from both
teams. Paul G and Art were doing there usual best at
terrorising the other teams defence but they kept
coming back at us and Dom had to make another very
important save. After that we again battled away and
a great cross from Art was brilliantly headed in by
Leathal only to be harshly ruled off side much to
his, and our, annoyance. The ref got a bit of verbal
and he threatened to send Leathal off if he didn't
stop making sarcastic comments! That would have been
a new one , being sent off for sarcasm! Anyway we
got on with the game and our man of the day Art then
got the ball outside the box and again worked his
way in and then across the area and blasted in his
3rd goal. A few minutes later he saw a great shot
hit the bar and with the confidence we now have in
ourselves we were on a roll, but we never do things
the easy way and a bit of confusion in our area led
to them scoring and we thought, with less than 10
minutes left surely we are not going to mess this
one up? We certainly didn't because a great pass from
Dave totally split their defence and guess who
pounced on the ball and scored his 4th? That man
again, Art, who was brilliant all day. When he plays
it gives us all a lift as we know what he is capable
of and he proved that today without a doubt. Easily
our man of the match but also
Dave, Ches, Scott, Leathal and our vital shot stopper
Dom all deserve a mention.
Virgil
Thanks again to Virgil for his interesting Match Report. It is great to read of your well deserved wins. Here's to many more.....
Sunday 10th July 2011 ------------ Queens Park 7 v Gosnells 0
Our best result for 3 years was
no more than we deserved and gave us all a lift
after the disappointments of the previous game. It
did start off very easy for us though as Gosnells
started with just 8 players and Scott scored in the
first minute. Three more of their players eventually
turned up to give them a full team but by then Chook
had scored his first goal of the season with a well
taken header from a corner to make it 2-0 but then
the opposition tightened up defensively and we had a
frustrating time trying to increase our lead but to
no avail and at half time we felt we hadn't done
ourselves justice and were disappointed at only
leading by 2 goals. With 16 players to choose from
Richie made a few important substitutions bringing
on Paul G, Art and Sugi and we immediately began
playing a good passing game and Paul made it 3-0
with a good finish from a well orchestrated move. It
got better for us when Sugi scored, rather
fortunately it must be said, from a shot from the
edge of the area that the keeper fumbled. It was all
one way now with us playing the sort of stuff that
Richie always demands, and in particular Dave in the
midfield and yet again Pete L in defence were very
impressive. Pete started a few good moves from our
half and an own goal under pressure from one of
Gosnells defenders made it five. Then our leading
goal scorer who had been out with hamstring
problems, Lee "Leathful" French, joined proceedings
and we were to witness the worst, but also the best,
from our striker. He scored an easy goal within
minutes of coming on but then proceeded to miss one
of the easiest of chances by putting the ball over
the bar from point blank range, something that Chris
decided to emulate a few minutes later as well, but
Leathful is not the sort of bloke who appreciates
his team mates ridicule and just before the end he
met Arts' dipping cross on the edge of the area with
a superb volley that rocketed into the back of the
net to make the final score 7 - 0. A great goal which
saved him from a lot of abuse in the bar after the
game!
Virgil
Sunday 3rd July 2011 ------------ Port Kennedy 2 v Queens Park 1
Well fellow team mates,
what can I say? Those of us that witnessed the
events of the afternoon will still be shaking their
heads in disbelief at what we had to endure. We knew
we were in for a hard match against high flying Port
Kennedy and for much of the first half we were on
the back foot but defending well and they only had
one real chance that Dom had to save. We had enough
possession to create a few chances ourselves and the
only problem for both teams were some of the strange
decisions the stand in referee was making but that's
to be expected to a certain extent at this level..
With the score NIL at half time we had every reason
to be pleased with ourselves.
The second half started with us playing positive
football and we put them under a lot of pressure.
Then John got the ball on the half way line and took
it all the way to the far line and put a perfect
ball across the area for Sugi to easily put the ball
into the net from a few feet. One nil to us and then
minutes later John put a corner across the area at
shin height which somehow nobody could connect to
but gave them a real scare. We were playing
confident stuff and our defence were easily dealing
with Port Kennedy and getting great help from our
midfield. In particular Pete L was superb ,ably
assisted by Paul "Calamity" Cowling, who was playing
his first game for a while after a couple of
accidents to his head/face, one that needed 7
stitches. Then came the first awful referee decision
that was to ruin our day. They came in from the left
and got the ball into the area but then Pete came in
with a great tackle that did not touch the player
and put the ball out for a corner. Or so we thought.
The ref pointed to the spot and gave a penalty even
though none of the opposition appealed and the ball
was so easily, fairly won. Absolute outrage on our
part and sheepish, embarrassment from Port Kennedy. They
scored to make it one each and I have to say that's
the worse penalty decision I have been involved in
but we got our act together and played on. The last
15 minutes was constant pressure from them but we
handled it easily enough and continued to frustrate
and when Dom made a great save near the end we
thought we had done enough for a well deserved draw
but it was not to be. A good move down the left led
to a pass to a player in the 6 yard box who put the
ball in the net but he was easily offside and our
linesman put his flag up. It wasn't even a marginal
decision but the referee decided that our linesman
hadn't even seen the incident and gave the goal! We
went mad and after a lot of arguing and yellow
carding some of us decided we had had enough and
started to walk off the pitch but fortunately some
of the more level headed in the team urged restraint
and in hind sight it was the right thing to continue
the game which was soon over anyway. We were all
furious though and extremely angry at 2 diabolically
bad decisions. You expect it at times but not 2 in
the same game against a team as good as Port Kennedy
.For all that we were really proud of our
performance. It was a real team effort, everyone
without exception did their bit from our excellent
defence to our hard working, creative midfield and
forwards and as usual Dom had a great game between
the sticks but our man of the match was Pete L who
was magnificent as our sweeper. "PETERS BALL!" We
had all calmed down by the time we had a beer in the
small club bar and the opposition were extremely
sympathetic, agreeing that the ref, their ref, was
awful and we had deserved a draw in a very
entertaining match. Obviously they hope to win the
league and were relieved at getting 3 points so they
were not that sympathetic!
Virgil
Thank you to Virgil for his riveting report, our sympathies go out to the players who understandably must feel quite cheated. Here's to your next match and a hope for a fair and just Referee.
Sunday 19th June 2011
------------Queens Park 2 v Canning
Buffers 0
Our 4th win in 5 games came against a team
we have played countless times over the years and
they were their usual moaning, whinging selves and
thankfully the league provided us with a referee for
this one. They started off well and put us under
constant pressure for the first 10 minutes but
without any real threat and then in quick succession
Scott hit the bar, Skoda curled in a great effort
well saved by the keeper and then Art had a good
header also well saved. Despite difficult weather
conditions at times, we poured on the pressure and
when Chook put Sugi through with a great pass he
lobbed the ball over the keeper's head to score a
well taken goal despite having his shirt pulled by a
defender. We continued the pressure and our defence
dealt with their few attacks with relative ease and
at half time we felt very confident and happy with
our one nil lead.
With 16 players to choose from Richie made a few
changes and the 2nd half continued with us playing
some good stuff but without getting the second goal
and Canning Buffers had 15 minutes of pressure but
our defence were up to the task with good
performances from Peters M and L and Dean . Dom
never really had to make a save but was his usual
alert, confident self - denying their strikers any goal
scoring chances. Then with 10 minutes left a great
move, started by Dean, was finished off by Paul G
scoring his 5th goal of the season and when the
final whistle went we felt that we were well worth
our two nil victory. Dean was our man of the
match, easily his best performance of the season.
It was a very satisfied bunch of players who sat in
the bar after the game having a few well earned
beers but we know that our next match against Port
Kennedy could really bring us back down to earth
after our great form of late. We will have to be at
our disciplined best against the best team in the
league.
Thanks to everyone at Queens Park for making us feel
part of the club yet again.
Virgil
Sunday 12th June 2011 ------------Canning City 2 v Queens Park 4
Conditions were perfect
for our 8th game of the season, and although some of
us seemed to take a while to get into the rhythm of
the game we were one up after about 10 minutes with
Neil Edwards hitting a good shot from 30 metres that
went in close to the left post and gave their keeper
little chance. We continued the pressure and as
usual had a few missed chances and gradually Canning
City got into the game and equalised after about 30
minutes with a close header from a free kick. It was
a pretty open game now and we played some good stuff
with Birthday Boy and Paul G in particular giving
their defence a hard time but to be honest we had a
slice of luck when Canning scored a well taken goal
that was given offside by our linesman and the
decision was upheld by Canning's ref, something we
don't see very often from an opposition referee. Half
time it was 1 - 1 and although we had some scares we
thought we were more than capable of getting a
result. It didn't start off too well though as they
went ahead early in the second half and then we
spent a frustrating period with lots of possession
and playing some great passing football but without
finding the net. The opposition were trying to get us
on the break but our defence were up to the task now
and then from a well taken Birthday Boy corner Paul
G finally made one of his headers count and it was
2 - 2. Then not long after Paul did one of his runs
into the area beating about 4 players and banging
the ball past the goalkeeper into the back of the
net, an absolutely brilliantly taken goal and
similar to his one last week. We were full of
confidence now and were hitting them hard with great
movement and passing and eventually after some more
missed chances Birthday Boy took advantage of a mix
up in defence and made it 4, a well deserved goal
from him. Canning had a couple of half chances near
the end but they seemed to struggle a lot in the 2nd
half and we got our 3rd win of the season. Particular
mention should be made of the usual tireless efforts
of Neil Edwards and Irish Pete, who gave 100%, Paul
G, who was a constant threat and scored 2 great goals,
and Birthday Boy who ran the game for us.
Maybe beers under candle light on a Thursday should
become a regular thing now, a good bit of male
bonding!

Sunday 5th June 2011 ------------ Queens Park 6 v Armadale 1
Overall a good day at the races
but more so a tribute to our Coach, Richard Adolphe
who has been at the helm and has guided us through
rough and smooth. Mention must also be made of the
Administration at Queens Park who have literally
provided us with every need. Today really was a
thank-you to Richard, our coach and the Committee at
Queens Park. Before I go I better make mention of
Pauly G who scored 2 spectacular goals and life
wouldn't be worth living if "Lethal Lee" didn't come
under the microscope with his double. Yes Lee 40
Goals are still within your grasp!!
Yes we are a team and our thoughts go to Chas and
Paul who sustained a nasty injury and we wish Jason
a speedy recovery as he goes under the knife this
coming Thursday.
A Big Well done to all Queens Park Vets..........

------------ Queens Park 2 v Western Knights 1
We were feeling pretty good after our result last
week and even with a few injuries we still had
enough players to give us 3 subs. The opposition
started off well but within 10 minutes we were
starting to play confident passing football as our
coach Richie had asked and we were soon one up when
a move started in our half ended with Neil Edwards
shooting from the edge of their area into the back
of the net. We piled on the pressure and as usual
missed a few chances, hitting the post on one
occasion. Western Knights put us under a bit
of pressure but our excellent defence handled them
well and our keeper Dom only had one save to make.
Then just before half time a Rob Bufton free kick
ended up in the back of their net after a
goalkeeping mistake so at half time we were two nil
up .
Feeling very confident at the restart we felt that
one more goal would finish them off but
frustratingly we spent the first 15 minutes under
constant pressure but we managed to defend well
enough and slowly got back into the game. Our
forwards were put through a couple of times but
couldn't finish off and then Art hit the bar from a
great free kick and Neil also hit the post. Western
Knights persevered and with less than 10 minutes to
go they got a penalty which they scored but we held
on and deservedly got our first win of the season.
Our men of the match were Irish Pete, Dom and Skoda.
Our only real complaint was once again not putting
away more of the chances we made but on the positive
side Colin Black managed not to give away any foul
throws! Thanks to Tyrone for doing an excellent job
as referee under difficult circumstances at times.

Sunday 8th May 2011 --------------- Warnbro Strikers 2 Vs Queens Park 2
After the frustrations of our
opening games we would be the first to admit that we
didn't expect to get a result against a team who
were flying high after a blistering high scoring
start to their season. Oh ye of little faith ! Mind
you after 10 minutes it looked like we were in for a
hard game with constant pressure on our hard working
defence but with virtually our first attack of the
game Art got the ball on the edge of the area and a
fine left foot shot beat the keeper and we were one
nil up! We gradually got into the game, soaking up a
lot of pressure and hitting them on the break and
Chook and our new striker Suggi could have easily
increased our lead. We were defending with real
confidence with the back 4 of Colin, Ches, Paul C and
Skoda doing a grand job but then an injury to Ches
lead to Irish Pete taking his place and he did his
usual job of winning everything he went for but they
equalised from a corner much to our frustration. One
all at half time with us feeling very positive and
within a few minutes of the re start we were 2-1 up
with lee scoring after good work from the midfield,
his fifth of the season. We were really starting to
believe we could win this now and if it hadn't been
for at least 3 dodgy offside decisions against Art I
am sure we would have scored more. Warnbro were
getting really frustrated as we constantly closed
them down with the midfield helping the defence time
after time and they were reduced to speculative
shots from outside the area. Sadly with a minute to
go they equalised from another corner which bounced
off a few players and somehow the ball found the
net. We were really disappointed but extremely proud
of our performance against a very talented team with
everyone contributing to a great performance, in
particular Art and Neil Edwards who were both
superb.

Sunday 17th April 2011 ------------- Kalamunda 6 Vs Queens Park 0
Well what a lesson we got
yesterday from a team who made their chances and put
them away with great aplomb! The day started off
badly for us as we were 2 defenders down with Skoda
aggravating an injury at training Thursday and Paul
Cowling hurting his groin in the match warm up. We
were 2 0 down at half time after 2 well taken goals
which we could do little about but as we had created
a few good chances ourselves we felt confident we
could get back into the game and we were under the
impression that Kalamunda looked a bit out of breath
towards the end of the 1st half. How wrong we were!
They put us under sustained pressure after the
interval and as the goals went in some heads started
to drop and it was us that started to struggle with
a lack of match fitness. If it hadn't been for the
great work of our goalkeeper Tom and some great
effort from our sweeper Robbie Bufton and Ches and
Dean in defence it would have been a lot worse and
we were all relieved when the ref blew the final
whistle and I was relieved that I was injured and
not fit to play! We were beaten by a very good
,well organised fit team and we could have few
complaints but hopefully as we get match fit we will
improve as we certainly have some good talent in the
side especially our keeper Tom who even though he
let in 6 goals was our man of the match. Without him
it would have been 10!

---------------
Queens Park 2 Vs Chandlers Macleod 2
The opening game of the season and with 3 new players and the
return of old teammate Derek from a few years ago we were
feeling very upbeat after the disappointments of last year. The
first 20 minutes were very scrappy from both teams as they tried
to adjust to the windy conditions and although we had lots of
possession it took us a while to play ball to feet as our coach
had demanded but eventually we started some good moves but our
finishing was poor. The opposition were mostly trying the long
ball and eventually scored against the run of play after a long
throw into the box led to some confusion and the ball was
scrambled in so it was 1 nil to Chandlers Macleod at half time.

The second half started equally frustrating for us as we kept giving the ball away but we again started to play some lovely passing football with Art and Paul G causing there defence lots of problems but still we couldn't take our chances until eventually the pressure paid off with an equaliser by Lee put in the box by Paul. The opposition didn't really have a lot to offer at this time and a move was started by a Paul Cowling free kick that found Art who then put it wide on the right to Paul G.
He hustled his way through a couple of defenders, got into their area and put a great ball across the 6 yard box which split the defence and Lee easily finished off the move to make it 2-1. With 10 minutes left we then should have finished them off when Scott beat 3 players and got into the area but shot wide. They then put us under a bit of pressure and equalised from another long throw into the box that came off the head of one of our defenders after a bit of confusion. We felt we had done more than enough to win but if you don't take your chances that's what happens. We were very pleased with our 3 debutants particularly our new goalkeeper Tom who did very well considering he hasn't played for a long time. The only sour note was an injury to Jason's knee in the first half and he had to be helped off the pitch but it seems as though it's not as bad as it looked so he hopes to be fit again soon.
