Womens Premier Night Series Grand Final - 17th April 2011
What a wonderful victory tonight for the Queens Park Women's Premier Night Series Team . Well Done Girls !! The whole club is very proud of you all.
It was a warm, balmy night, decidedly summery despite it being more than halfway through April it was an extremely pleasant evening outside. Around 300 spectators attended to witness a highly entertaining match.
Playing against UWA Nedlands, the score was 0-0 at halftime, reflecting the play to that point. In the second half though, Queens Park took the upper hand and scored 2 well earned goals. With guts and determination, the girls managed to defend solidly and keep a clean sheet, not an easy task with a determined UWA side who to their credit kept coming back to attack whenever possible. Stacey Learmont scored the first goal, after brilliantly holding her own against several opposition players, she forced her way into the box and powerfully shot a beauty into the net. Donelle delivered a sweet ball in for the second goal, neatly planted into the net by Jess Lindquist. (To be updated with full names asap, please forgive the scribe...) Later into the game, an unfortunate UWA player appeared to injure her ankle and had to be stretchered off. We wish her a speedy recovery.
UWA took home their Runner-Up Silver Medals, which is something to be proud of. Queens Park girls & Coach/es took home their Winners Gold Medals. Steve-O and Grant held the Trophy up high with QPC Women's Captain Stacey as they celebrated. The girls deservedly plan to celebrate tonight and next week.
Good on you Girls !!
